För Moki Cherry fanns ingen tydlig gräns mellan livet och konsten. På den gamla skolan i Tågarp som Don och Moki flyttade till 1970 pågick en konstant kulturproduktion samtidigt med livet. Inte vid sidan av varandra utan tillsammans, till fullo integrerade med varandra. Att prata om Moki Cherrys konst är lika mycket att prata om hennes liv.

Courtesy: Naima Karlsson and Blank Forms, New York In 1971, Don and Moki were invited to bring their home to Modern Museet’s ‘Utopias & Visions 1871–1981’ exhibition in Stockholm, where the family lived for almost three months inside a geodesic dome dressed in Moki’s fabrics. Moki Cherry sydde utopier i siden och sammet. Med nål och tråd skapade hon sina visioner av en annan, möjlig värld, ångande av jazz och hippiekultur. In Moki Cherry’s (1943–2009) multifaceted artistic practice, there are no sharp boundaries between design, art, drama and music. She was both typical of her age, and also found her own paths.

Moki frequently exhibited in both places, and her work progressed into sculpture using wood and electric light, ceramics, and collage. She returned to painting and tapestry in the last few years of her life. Moki Cherry died at home in Tågarp on August 29th, 2009.

Swedish Monica Karlsson saw Neo Conceptual Art Moki and Don Cherry’s school house in Tagarp, Skane, Sweden, has been preserved by her family, including her daughter Neneh Cherry, her son Eagle Eye Cherry, and her granddaughter Naima Karlsson, and opened to the public with performances this past summer, with the aim to further their legacy and embrace local community.
